Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Koino collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in mind.

Koino is run by Alex Crișan, Romania, who is the data controller.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist:

• your email address;
• the language you want our emails in;
• if you answer them, who you play with, your usual group size and which games interest you;
• when you signed up and, once we start sending emails, when we last emailed you.

When you use the site:

• your IP address, used for a few seconds to stop spam (rate limiting) and to check you're not a bot (Cloudflare Turnstile). We don't store it with your waitlist entry;
• a cookie that remembers the language you picked.

When you play the prototype:

• a random player ID kept in your browser for that tab, and the hero you picked. Rooms keep this only while the room is in use. We don't ask for your name or email to play.

We don't use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels.

Why we use it

• To email you when a game is ready to play. You give your consent by joining the waitlist (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). We don't send any emails yet, and joining needs no confirmation email.
• To decide which game to build first, using the optional answers, counted together.
• To keep the site safe from abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).

Children

Signing up is for adults and for parents signing up for their family. In Romania, children under 16 need a parent's consent, so if you are under 16, please ask a parent to sign up instead. If we learn that a child signed up without a parent, we delete the entry.

Who processes it for us

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, stores the waitlist, runs Turnstile and will send our emails once we start. Cloudflare acts as our processor under its data processing agreement and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We don't sell your data or share it with anyone else.

How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist entry until you ask us to delete it, unsubscribe, or until 12 months after the last game you asked about is released, whichever comes first.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• show you the data we hold about you (access);
• correct it (rectification);
• delete it (erasure);
• limit how we use it (restriction);
• give it to you in a common format (portability);
• stop using it (objection).

You can withdraw your consent at any time by writing to hello@koino.party. You can also complain to the Romanian data protection authority, ANSPDCP (www.dataprotection.ro).

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change matters, we'll email people on the waitlist.
